Background
Sharing a passion for fresh Japanese cuisine
Opening its first bright, clean, modern Japanese-style food outlet in London in 2003, this fresh food company has seen rapid organic growth. Its dishes have proved immensely popular with people seeking something new, different and healthy at the leading edge of contemporary convenience food. Almost 15 years on, the company is continuing to expand and innovate with new products and diversify into new brands. With around 50 UK outlets, it has also embarked on international expansion with stores in New York.
To support continued growth, 2017 sees this fast-growing food company launch a new flagship 65,000sq foot central processing unit in West London. The high-quality urban distribution space, eight miles from central London, will be customised for all food preparation, packaging, delivery and logistics, giving the company additional capacity to pursue its growth plans.
Challenges
Ensuring high health, hygiene and food safety standards
With the new-build unit, the company had the opportunity to create a state-of-the-art distribution centre to support the immediate and long-term needs of the business. Central to this, it wanted a robust but user-friendly high-end surveillance solution. It would need to provide reliable monitoring for all parts of the estate, both the external premises and key operational areas within the building. The specification was for a futureproof system that would be easy to operate, simple to maintain and cost-effective to run. It would need to ensure that high-definition images could be retrieved fast and provide reliable 24/7 monitoring for strategic locations, including all food preparation, storage and refrigerated areas plus loading bays and entry/exit points. Given the critical importance of maintaining impeccable health, hygiene and food safety standards, the surveillance system will play a key role to provide visibility and accountability of all food handling while helping to keep on-site operations running safely and smoothly.
Solution
Advanced compression for smoother, faster surveillance
M&E contractor AMD Environmental invited expert security integrators Triple Star Fire & Security to design and deliver a complete HD surveillance solution. After considering various options, the IDIS system was the stand-out choice to deliver the ease of use, industry-leading resilience and high-quality images the food company required, all from a single provider. With a customised mix of hardware, software and peripherals, the IDIS DirectIP™solution includes 4K network video recorders (NVRs), a mix of dome and bullet cameras and totally licence-free IDIS Centre video management software. Equipped with IDIS Intelligent Codec advanced compression technology, the innovative solution will deliver faster, smoother searching plus savings of up to 90% on standard storage space and network bandwidth costs, without compromising speed or image quality.
Results and Benefits
A scalable solution, futureproofed for growth
Blending advanced surveillance technologies with powerful analytics and unparalleled ease of use, the IDIS solution ensures that food company benefits from reliable 24/7 performance, outstanding operational efficiency and high image quality with no latency. Highly cost-effective, it also provides the capability to scale surveillance across the branch network, integrate additional functionality and add new features as requirements evolve.
" It was vitally important to ensure the new flagship distribution centre is safe, secure and equipped to support its ambitious growth plans so it can continue to create consistently high-quality fresh food. IDIS made the surveillance installation so easy. True to the plug-and-play promise, we were able to put everything together fast and see it all come to life with minimal effort. "
