Background
Updated IP video a priority for flagship site
This UK-based pharmaceutical manufacturer has established a global reputation thanks to its focus on new technology and best-in-class service. It operates a network of manufacturing, service and distribution centres, allowing it to lead the field in solid dose design and coating systems. Its UK production facility, just outside London, was protected by an analogue video surveillance system, but it was nearing the end of its useful life and needed replacement to keep pace with the company’s high security and quality standards.
Challenges
More secure technology needed to mitigate changing risks
Leading IDIS integrator, Secom plc was called in to advise on an advanced solution that would be more secure and deliver better quality images. A priority for the end-user’s security auditors was that the new IP surveillance system had to be fully hardened against cyber-attacks. Secom recommended using IDIS technology because it met these requirements and offered the reassurance of design and manufacture effectively under one roof in South Korea. The customer was also reassured by the use of a proprietary embedded Linux platform that can only run authorised software and modules as well as the inability of third-party apps to run inside IDIS IP cameras. The IDIS technical team then worked closely with Secom to establish dedicated IP camera subnets, separate from the customer’s corporate networks, making unauthorised connections virtually impossible.
Solution
Robust IDIS surveillance to allow round-the-clock auditing
The advanced UK manufacturing site is now protected internally and externally by the latest IDIS IP camera and recording technology. Secom installed 84 cameras, including full HD IR dome units (DC-D3212RX), vandal and weatherproof full HD IR domes (DC-D2212WR) and full HD, heated IR bullet cameras (DC-T3233HRX). Crisp, high definition image capture allows continuous surveillance of all production areas, entrances and exits, and the building surrounds, ensuring that all activity is recorded for audit purposes. Recordings are kept for 90 days and crucially IDIS’s Smart Failover technology protects the customer against video data loss which can arise from a wide range of potential fault conditions, such as network instability or failure, ensuring that recordings are automatically updated without any gaps once the fault is resolved.
Results and Benefits
Well delivered solution points to future upgrades
The complete system was delivered seamlessly by Secom with no interruption to the customer’s normal production and service operations, thanks to the IDIS quick installation features and technical support.
The world-class manufacturing operation is now protected by the best available video technology.
